- Road Map

Our Latitude: 57 16 22 North and 5 44 07 West

All main routes to Skye come through some of the most stunning scenery in Scotland, which is why most visitors choose to arrive and depart using different routes - Skye Bridge on and a ferry off, is probably the most common combination!

When you come off the Skye bridge, go straight ahead across the roundabout sign posted "Mo Dhachaidh". Straight ahead 600 metres down the road, turn left at the signpost at the top of the private drive.

We can arrange car hire for touring Skye if required. We can also pick up from the train staion, just contact us in advance.

By Road:
Drive from Glasgow to Fort William on the A82, allow 2 ½ hours
Drive from Fort William to Inverness on the A82, allow 1 ½ hours
Drive from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh (nearest mainland link to the Isle of Skye) taking the A82 to Drumnadrochit, then take the A887 to Torgyle Bridge, then take the A87 to Kyle of Lochalsh, allow 2 ½ hours total journey time.

The Isle of Skye became permanently tethered to the Scottish mainland when the Skye Bridge opened in 1995. The controversial bridge tolls were abolished in 2004 and the crossing is now free.

There are petrol stations at Broadford (open 24 hours), Armadale, Portree, Dunvegan and Uig.

By Bus:
Scottish Citylink runs direct buses from Glasgow to Portree ( 6¼ hours, three daily) and Uig via Crianlarich, Fort William and Kyle of Lochalsh. Buses also run from Inverness to Portree (3½ hours, twice daily).

For details contact: Citylink, Tel. 08705-5505050; National Express, Tel. 08705-808080.

By Ferry:
Skye by car ferry from Mallaig to Armadale, on the southern Sleat Peninsula. The car and passenger ferry makes the 30-min crossing 7 times daily each way (first one leaves Mallaig at 0840, Armadale at 0925; the last one at 1845 and 1920) Mon-Sat from Mar to Oct, and Sun end of May to mid-Sep. The ferry runs twice daily & not at weekends during the winter months.

For details contact: Mallaig, Tel. 01687-462403, or Armadale, Tel. 01471-844248. Booking is recommended during the summer months, Tel. 08705- 650000.
Visit www.calmac.co.uk for current prices and timetables.
Trains to and from Fort William and Glasgow Queen St connect with some of the ferries.

By Rail:
Services (through spectacular scenery) from Inverness to Kyle and Glasgow to Mallaig (via Fort William).
The Caledonian McBrayne ferry terminal is five minutes walk around the corner, the two timetables neatly corresponding for arriving rail passengers. Interestingly 2001 in fact is the centenary of the Fort William to Mallaig line, following the opening of the Glasgow to Fort William route in 1894.

First ScotRail website.

By Air:
The nearest airport is Inverness, from which a car can be hired or the Citylink bus taken. The car journey takes between two and three hours to Kyleakin, via Loch Ness or Achnasheen and the Skye Bridge.

Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports are approximately 250 miles away by road - a five/six hour drive.

British Airways flights to Inverness are daily from Edinburgh
There is no service on Saturday

Car hire is available at Inverness Airport.
